Boosting India’s Electrical Safety

14 May 2018

ICA India is working with the Government and leading companies to promote ‘Electrical Safety in the Country’.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in association with International Copper Association India (ICAI) recently ran the country’s 4th National Workshop on Electrical Safety’ to promote electrical safety and help to improve standards.

Specifically the workshop examined safety regulations, impact of technology, and the problems and challenges facing the industry and consumers, with an eye to developing a roadmap for a safe electrical environment by all stakeholders.

Issues covered electrical accident analysis, issues & challenges, installation, building standardization, electrical Safety in high rise buildings, fire prevention of transformers, safety requirements for EV Charging infrastructure.

The development and application of new technologies in electrical engineering pose many challenges for the application of safety rules, including new working practices, management techniques, equipment, and increased interaction between complex systems.

“Awareness of electrical hazards is crucial in reducing the staggering number of electrical fires, injuries, and deaths that occur every year,” Mr. Sanjeev Ranjan, Managing Director, International Copper Association India, said. “By understanding basic electrical safety principles and adhering to safe practices, many electrocutions and home fires can be prevented.”
