The Copper Mark is a credible assurance framework to promote responsible production practices and demonstrate the copper industry’s commitment to a more sustainable world.
The Copper Mark demonstrates responsible production practices in the copper, molybdenum, nickel and zinc industries and the commitment of such industries to the green transition.
Since December 2019, the Copper Mark has been an independent entity and has committed to including the perspectives of its impacted stakeholders in the governance structure. It is governed by its Board of Directors and a multi-stakeholder Advisory Council.
The Copper Mark Monitoring and Evaluation System helps to define the data and indicators to track performance toward achieving our short- and long-term goals, as well as our intended impact.
Participants in The Copper Mark commit to fully meet the requirements of the Copper Mark standards. Each site is independently verified to meet the standard criteria through a rigorous site-level assessment process.
After successful completion of the assessment, the performance determination and a summary of the assessment activities, methodology and results are published. Sites have to address all gaps between their practices and the standard criteria to meet their commitment.
The Copper Mark recognises that core expectations evolve over time and become more demanding. For this reason, each site is re-assessed every three years against updated criteria.
Detailed expectations and timelines are defined in the Copper Mark Assurance Process.
