Welcome to the Copper Map, an extensive and curated resource developed by the International Copper Association (ICA). This interactive map provides a comprehensive overview of the copper industry’s global supply chain, encompassing approximately 550 key sites.

The map covers copper’s three primary sectors:

  1. Upstream (Mining): Featuring around 300 mining sites with over 90% of global production, this section highlights the extraction phase of copper production, showcasing the geographical diversity and significant scale of global copper mining operations.
  2. Midstream (Smelting & Refining): With close to 100 sites dedicated to smelting and refining representing over 85% of production, this segment illustrates the critical processes that transform copper concentrate into refined copper ready for use in various applications.
  3. Downstream (Semis and Fabrication): Representing a curated sample of 150+ sites, this part of the map focuses on the semi-finished and fabricated products that copper contributes to, demonstrating the material’s essential role in manufacturing and end-use applications.

This map not only emphasizes the expansive reach and complexity of the copper supply chain but also highlights its dynamic nature, underscored by the daily maintenance and weekly updates performed by the ICA. By providing up-to-date and detailed information, this map serves as an invaluable tool for industry stakeholders, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the multifaceted journey of copper from mine to market.
