China Aquaculture Adds Copper Protection

ICA China and local aquaculture companies are putting copper nets to the test.

The recent Asia-Pacific Aquaculture Expo 2016 in Xiamen, China was a prime opportunity to showcase the latest advances in copper alloy netting to the world.

ICA China’s booth-with the theme “Copper Alloy Cage and Copper Weir helping China to achieve Healthy Aquaculture”-highlighted the strength, antifouling and health features of copper netting.

The booth also exhibited the work of partner companies and organizations like Wieland, Mitsubishi Shindoh, Luoyang Copper, China Fishery Association, East China Sea Fishery Institute, Weihai Zhengming, Taizhou Xinglang, and Dachen Hengsheng.

A recent documentary by Central China Television (CCTV) showcasing the country’s ‘copper aquaculture’ highlighted the work of many of these companies and the copper mesh technology being promoted by ICA China.

One of those is the construction this year of Dachendao Aquaculture Company’s ‘copper weir’ using copper mesh netting. Almost complete, the weir near Dachen Island in Zhejiang Province, recently hosted over 15 aquaculture officials and potential investors organized by Zhejiang Province Ocean and Fishery Bureau and East China Sea Fishery Institute.

At the same time ICA China and ICA members visited the country’s largest salmon farm in Qinghai province run by Longyangxia-200 cages in operation producing 8,500 tons and $500M sales a year-to promote copper netting solutions.
