Australia’s New Copper Region?

A construction worker stands ready to start a days work in his construction vehicle.

The Australian Government says it has found new copper “hot spots” in Queensland and the Northern Territory that have huge potential for exploration.
The new discovery lies between the areas’ two major resource hubs–Tennant Creek in the NT and Mt Isa in Queensland.

The Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Matt Canavan, said these locations were contained in the latest Northern Australian Geochemical Survey (NAGS) data.

“Surface soil samples were collected at 776 sites in this region and analysed for their metal content. The data reveal new potential for elements such as copper, zinc and nickel,” Mr Canavan said in a media release.

“These new data are vital to stimulating more exploration activity across Northern Australia, and these first ‘clues’ as to where resources might be located help to ensure responsible development of the north.”
