The Copper Mark Marks Milestone

The Copper Mark, a leading assurance framework for responsible practices across copper, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc value chains, has reached the milestone of 100 participating sites.

Molymex, a molybdenum roaster in México joins as the 100th active participant, demonstrating the growth and expansion of The Copper Mark Assurance Framework into other metals and along the value chain.

Of these sites, 77 have received The Copper Mark, The Molybdenum Mark, The Nickel Mark, and/or The Zinc Mark. In terms of copper production, more than 1/3 of the world’s mined copper comes from sites that have The Copper Mark.

The growth in the number of sites demonstrates the progress made in ensuring responsible practices in the copper, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc value chains.

Through The Copper Mark assurance framework, sites can show their commitment to responsible production, recycling, and sourcing. To verify performance, sites undergo a rigorous site-level assessment conducted by approved independent assessors. The assessment is based on 33 environmental, social, and governance criteria.

“We are proud of this significant milestone for The Copper Mark. Our framework supports sites in demonstrating their ESG performance and committing to continuous improvement, which is of paramount importance in view of the globally pursued energy transition,” Michèle Brülhart, Executive Director of The Copper Mark, said.

“We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us, but for now, we celebrate this milestone.”
