An International Copper Association study shows copper use in smart homes will reach 1.5 million tonnes a year by 2030.
Demand from smart wiring, connected gadgets, batteries, energy storage and high tech appliances is already doubling copper demand by 2021 says the study.
Copper is found in smart home hubs, switches, routers, wiring and lithium- ion batteries, making smart home integration a significant part of rising copper demand.
The ICA study predicts copper use in the smart home market will hit 21% CAGR between 2018 & 2030.
“Australia has been a pioneer in the smart home revolution,” John Fennell, CEO of ICAAustralia said. “With industry and government partners we created the Smart Wiring standard for buildings fifteen years ago.”
“Its evolved over the years to become the gold standard for how homes and offices need to be wired to make the most of the technology revolution disrupting how we live & work.”
“ICAAustralia is now in partnership with the country’s 80,000 cablers to make sure homes are wired right,” Mr Fennell said.
