It’s been a busy month since we launched the Water Report in Adelaide, the first instalment of the Zero Emission Copper Mine project.
The Water Report is now up on the copper web site and is seeing steady traffic as all our key stakeholders in government & industry absorb its findings. We will be working with all of them to make sure the copper industry here & globally take steps to use water at mine sites more sustainably.
To help them do just that we’re developing a Digital Knowledge Platform or toolkit so copper company CTO’s, site managers and executives have ready access to the latest emission abating technologies for new & existing mines.
The Water Report is being followed up with some specific projects as well. We’re partnering with OZ Minerals on their upcoming Waste to Value Open Innovation Challenge, exploring new ideas in waste minimisation.
We’ re also working with the Adelaide University on their Copper for Tomorrow bid to create a dedicated cooperative research centre (CRC) with the mandate of a “Sustainable Copper for a Sustainable Future”.
The Water Report is causing ripples internationally too. ICAA has been invited to give a keynote speech on the Innovation and Technology implications of our Zero Emission Copper Mine of the Future report at the Future Minerals Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia early next year.
On top of that ICAA’s Board has now selected Materials Movements as the next emission impact theme to do a deep dive research program, with a final study out next year.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited.
Cheers, John Fennell
