A Collaborative Impact Platform that will aggregate knowledge and provide insights on technology and emerging research to deliver on the key industry challenges, including zero-emission mining, moved a step closer today.

Amira Global and the International Copper Association Australia (ICAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly deliver a knowledge platform for the global resources industry of the future.

CollaborateOre will help address and overcome the challenges in research, development, innovation and implementation, of dispersed, siloed, stranded and fragmented outcomes and efforts.

The platform will be searchable by stakeholders across the public, research, mining technology and community sectors interested in best practice and innovation in the resources sector.

In a joint announcement with ICAA today, Amira Global CEO Dr Jacqui Coombes said the agreement enables the organisations to share resources to create a “platform that is beyond the resources of a single producer, researcher, any one solution provider”.

“Amira and ICAA are well on track in developing a prototype platform to serve Amira members and the broader global resources sector,” Dr Coombes said.

“We will consult widely with industry and subject matter experts to ensure we deliver an independent platform that is shared in accordance with the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) principles of scientific data management.

“Its contents could include research outcomes, data, tools, emerging technologies and trends, learning, directories, and communities of practice.”

ICAA CEO John Fennell said the partnership would enable the dissemination of critical information to accelerate innovation for zero-emission mining.

“Since 2019, ICAA has progressed Phases 1-3 of the Zero Emission Copper Mine of the Future Project (Roadmap to Zero). ICAA Roadmap to Zero emphasises the importance of collaboration and partnership within and between mining companies and across the public, research, mining technology, and community sectors to unlock and advance innovation uptake,” Mr. Fennell said.

“Currently, there is no central global platform to assist mining companies to deliver a zero-emission operation of the future. The platform will be supporting the output and framework established from ICAA research and will include the ICAA Roadmap to Zero documents.”

The ICAA Roadmap to Zero is a global project to advance zero emission copper mining.

Initially, the platform will also host the CRC Ore Grade Engineering Practitioners Guide e-book and Wiki, and the Amira Global Data Metallogenica (a database of over 3000 mineral deposits artifacts) and other Amira Global research knowledge. CRC Ore has provided seed funding to design, develop, and pilot the platform as part of its industry legacy, and the Project also acknowledges the generous support from the NSW Government – Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Activation Fund (Round 1). Hatch Limited are acknowledged for their support of providing Grade Engineering content on the platform.

The platform is a multi-staged Project to deliver an elegant and comprehensive tool for industry to accelerate knowledge exchange, research and the adoption of leading technologies to enable, guide and shape the global resources industry of the future.
